Assistant Director, ACT Education DirectorateKirstin De Montis is an Assistant Director with the ACT Education Directorate, which focuses on career education, student transitions and pathway programs. She was integral in developing and implementing the Understanding Building and Construction Program (UBCP).
The UBCP is a curriculum-based program that provides a structured framework to increase knowledge and skills of the building and construction industry and its position in the Australian economy. Its focus is on increasing the number of female and non-binary school students exposed to career options in this industry.
The UBCP supports Kirstin’s belief that all students in years 7-12 need access to career education programs. She is pleased to see that this program’s focus is on getting more females exposed to the building and construction industry.
Kirstin has been a teacher for over 20 years across several schools in Canberra and a careers adviser since 2013. She has a real passion for career development and supporting young people with their own career journey and stages of transition. More recently, she has been involved in developing a curriculum to support year 6 students with their career development and transition to high school.
